EE 396

Computer Engineering Hardware (verilog/FPGA) and Software (Android App) Design

Advisor:   Galen Sasaki | galens@hawaii.edu

Prerequisites:  EE 361, EE 361L, and EE 205 (or equivalent)

Courses:  EE 396, spread over a year

Focus:

Description:
There are two parts to this EE 396 project (2 credits). Each part is worth 1 credit. This EE 396 is primarily for students who are in or are considering computer engineering.

Part 1, FPGA Design Project (1 credit hour): This is comprised of a few hardware design projects that use verilog and FPGAs. This is a follow up to the EE 361L design projects, which is why EE 361L is a pre-requisite. This will be offered in the Spring semesters. So the sequence is EE 361L --> EE 396 FPGA Design Project.

Part 2, Android App Projects (1 credit hour): The objective is for groups of students to think of and develop original and useful Android Apps. This will involve java, the Android System Development Kit (SDK), Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE), user interfaces, etc. The project will be in the fall semester, but students are required to learn java and software development tools in the preceding summer. So the sequence is EE 205 --> Summer to learn java and software development tools --> EE 396 Android App Project.
